Windows Server 2022 Licensing & Pricing
With Windows Server 2022, Microsoft has brought Cloud Computing within the realm of On Premise Network Computing. In addition to the new features, there have been some changes in the licensing of Windows Server too:
- Each physical server must be licensed for all physical cores
- Each physical processor must be licensed with a minimum of 8 physical cores
- Each physical server must be licensed with a minimum of two processors, totaling a minimum of 16 physical cores
- Core licenses is sold in two-core packs
The change to Core-based licensing is one of many steps that Microsoft is taking to provide a strong base for cloud innovation. Besides Core-based licensing, a Client Access License (CAL) will be required for the end user to join the server network.
